New beginnings. That's what we all hope for. What we all want to get, somehow. Kate Madison thought she had hers. She started out in Atlanta, an associate in the posh law firm of Henderson, Ketterwell & Smithfield's financial section. Despite growing up fat and poor outside of Pearson, Georgia, she came out on top. Went to school at Emory University, graduated third in her law class. Fought the prejudice and low level discrimination most fat people suffer when trying to enter the professional arenas to become one of the top associates at her firm. And then she met John Hanson, another associate on the firms' real estate side.
At first, things seem to be going well. Hanson is smart, dapper and charming. He doesn't care that she's fat and grew up poor, doesn't care about her pedigree. They have a whirlwind romance, where he sweeps her off her feet. He seems to be the man of her dreams. And then they get married, six months after their initial meeting.
Tthen the beatings start. He slaps her one night because dinner is late; Kate is no kind of a cook. He appologizes instantly, begging her forgiveness and swearing he'll never do it again. Kate believes him, and things go on for a while. But the beatings don't stop. They follow a predictable pattern. And finally, after a year, Kate has had enough. She leaves Hanson and goes for a divorce. Hanson, however, is a sore loser and come safter her with a gun. During the ensuing trial, he swears undying vengeance on Kate and vows to get her one day.
Kate moves way up to Minnesota. Six years later, where our story starts, she is walking home one night, when she meets a slightly disillusioned ex-special forces man called Bill Gunther. When she gets home after that meeting, she finds a message from John Hanson on her answering machine. He has gotten out of prison and is coming to get her.
Will Bill Gunther step in and help her deal with the madman? Or will she have to face him all by herself? Will she and Bill even have a chance at romance, with his past and Kate's bad experiences? Let the unfolding story of Kate Madison, Bill Gunther and John Hanson draw you in, where we will discover the answers to these questions, and many more.
